Included with their standard HD package is ESPN, Discovery, TNT, A&E, and Starz. Their "off air" selection is of Philadelphia, not Baltimore stations. They are 3-CBS, 6-ABC, 10-NBC, 12-PBS, 17, 29-Fox, 57-CW. Picture is good, some programing isn't really HD, but that's not the cable company's fault. Audio does cut out, this occurs most often on Discovery and at night. I suspect this is a cable company issue. I'd like to see more HD programing included, the Verizon Fios, has much more than cable or satellite. I use an Series3 HD TiVo with cable cards for a tuner. I don't like the slow Motorola box, nor the lousy software on it. I switched from DirecTV in Dec '06, took 6 weeks from sign-up to when my service and billing were finally correct. I have had my 51" Sony since 2004. The TV, I love. DVD's awsome. The problem is we don't watch DVD's every time we watch TV. Comcast has issues with local programming. Not all of our local sports are in Hi-Def. Namely MD Terps!! Comcast always places the Capitals games (not a big hockey fan) over the Terps games. Even the Ravens playing rival teams are not always broadcasted in Hi-Def. Local news is never in Hi-Def. Approximately 35% of all programming is true Hi-Def and not the squashed signal Comcast thinks they are fooling us with. The squashed singal produces a nearly an unviewable picture. When you go to the non Hi-Def channels to watch the same show, especially Comcast Sports Net, the picture is distorted and quite frankly annoying. Now on Discovery, National Geographic Channel, and INHD are always in Hi-Def. Local TV is based upon the network. How can a prime time show not be in Hi-Def? Now the sound is absolutely horrible. Almost all programs illustrate that they are broadcasted in Dolby 5.1. No they are not!! The movie channels are normally in 5.1. Not the local programming. Unfortunately satelite wants cash up front to receive their programming. Otherwise I would be a former Crappy Comcast Cable Crony... Over the last 3 years the quality of service has been a diminishing return. The analog channel have poor picture quality. The digital channels picture quality range from good to poor. Over the last 12 months I loose cable TV service at least once a month. It is out anywhwhere from a minute to several hours. You call in a trouble and the service rep does not bother running checks to see if it is neighborhood wide or localized to your house. The trouble has always been wide spread. If it rains, the picture quality drops across all channels. The sound quality is good, but the volume level between stations varies by more than 500%. I have had my drop cord replaced 3 times due to lightning damage. This appears that the cabling in our neighborhood is not properly grounded. It is impossible to get Comcast to look at wide area problems. They will only look at your local wiring. Even though the signal strengths were not within their tolerance levels, nothing was done outside my house to correct this. I also have internet access and this has been worse than the cable TV. I loose connection at least once a week. Since I run a router that does not like the way COmcast's internet stops and starts, I have to reset the router so as my two PCs can regain access to the internet. Verizon has been given the okay to offer broadband TV access in our county and I will be switching to them as soon as it is offered. They will ahve fiber to the premise. In the 31 years I have lived here, I have never lost dial tone from Verison's supplied service, a differeence of night and day. November 24, 2004 Adelphia City: Marriottsville ZipCode: 21104 County: Carroll Title: Adelphia should fold and/or sell out I recently got hooked up to Adelphia's HD "package" (using the word loosely). I called to ask when Fox and some other channels would be added to their programming (spoke to three different people, just to compare answers), I got three different (conflicting) answers. One man told me you can receive Fox in HD on channel 12 (an SD - standard definition channel) even though it is not yet available on the designated HD channel. Channel 12 does not have the bandwidth to handle an HD signal. When I pointed this out to him, he got flustered, defensive, and insulting. It was difficult to tell if he was acting out of ignorance or intentional deception. Either way, this "customer service representative" clearly should not have been allowed to interface with the public. Another rep told me that the reason why Fox is not available is because our local county government doesn't allow it. She suggested that I contact them and urge them to reconsider. Our local cable liaison was nearly incensed when I informed her about this. She said she would investigate to find out why Adelphia is "misleading" their customers. All in all, it was a surreal experience dealing with these people. They show all the signs of a troubled company, desperate to hang onto business. Their HD channels periodically do not work, they have yet to finialize contracts with PBS and Fox. Still yet to receive ESPN, Discovery, or many of the other HD networks that Comcast has in the neighboring county. If you have any issues it will generally take a week to get resolved, which becomes difficult if you work at home and need a high speed network connection. Digital artifacts are also a regular occurance during a HD broadcast. The lower range of channels have all the digital quality of a pair of bunny ears in a 15 foot hole. The programming is good, all the locals except Fox and UPN. I would really like to see Discovery-HD added and Fox hopefully by NFL season start of 2004. More programming would be great, especially Pay-Per-View packages like NFL, NHL, MLB, and NBA. Customer service is so-so. Sometimes you can call and get someone who barely knows what HDTV means, and other times you get very knowledgable people that are very helpful. Sound is great when in Dolby Digital 5.1, other times its advertised at 5.1 and I only get 2 channel sound, but I don't think that is comcasts fault. Overall the service is great and would recommend it to anyone buying an HDTV. However, the picture periodically disappears for a second or two. This is quite annoying. The sound quality isn't what I had expected, and it, too, vanishes for a period of about 2 seconds every 20 to 30 seconds. Repair servicemen have honestly expressed a total lack of understanding of the problems. "It's all new to us" said one of them. The periods of sound disappearance do not coincide with the times the picture vanishes. I realize that this is new, but Comcast shouldn't advertise it if they don't yet understand it. And only 3 stations? I don't even count Comcast Sportsnet, as so few games are broadcast in high definition. When there is a game broadcast in HD, I often don't get all of it. And what's the delay with adding ESPN, CBS, and Fox to the HD lineup? I'm close to switching to a satellite. County Moved too a new apt, and in the move with the rental trk, bought a Sony xbr800 at a good price at CircuitCity. Ordered Comcast cable with the Motorola HD box and the cable modem. The installer,a young man named Brett was great,and very professional. He had everything up and running in 30 minutes. The problems after two weeks are NO CBS HD programming at all, an issue between Comcast Cable and Viacon Corp( the owner of CBS affilate WJZ-TV channel 13 in Baltimore)& NO PBS( Marlyland Public Television)...MPT and Comcast point the fingure at each other on this. HBO,Showtime,ABC,and most of the time NBC are great. Black dropouts on NBC,especially Leno. From what I have been told Comcast from their costumer service people they have no plans to offer Discovery HD in the near future and the legal issues with CBS/Viacon don't seem to be getting resolved.And WHO knows what the story on MPT/PBS is. Thank goodness the Federal Goverment paid for all the PBS stations to upgrade to HD with MILLIONS of dollars,so we are left to only get an OTA signal, because a major cable company and a PBS affilate can't get it together. I'am going too give this cable thing a another week and see what might happen, and then I'am going to do what I should have done in the first place...go buy a Sony satHD200 combined reciever and a good Terk antenna for OTA. I got Comcast HDTV service. 5 channels available and no date on when more will be added. The Motorola 5100 box gives blured channels on all lower channels (2-83). I complained back in Decmeber about this and they are still working to find a solution. In the mean time I gotta pay $ 57/months for digital service which will give me 4 channels(not caounting Comcast Sports HD). I even complained about soundproblems too. Nothing happend in more than 6 months. So I'm getting all the money refunded when I deliever the box back. I'm going to buy a OTA and wait with Comcast till 2007 and hope they have solved all their issues at that time. By signing up with the kiosk in Arundel Mills I was able to get a great deal on service. I got the service primarily for Capitals games. I just bought a Sony 32HS500 HDTV and had the Motorola 5100 receiver installed. The picture quality of the Capitals game was phenominal. My TV had a little pixilation problems with fast moving red colors. Otherwise it's as close to being at the game without the high ticket prices. I'm hoping that ESPN, and other HD channels will become available soon. I am extremely satisfied with the service, the puck is so much easier to follow. Along with the install I also got Cable Internet and the installation tech even installed new splitters to run cable to my other two rooms. The other rooms get standard cable only, which is fine. I called comcast at about 8pm one night and spent no more than 3 minutes on the phone setting up an appointment to hd installation. They had 4 hr blocks available for the next day but because of my work schedule had to wait until Saturday. They called about 10 minutes before they got to my house to let me know they were on the way and spent about 5 minutes installing the box.....The clarity of the hd channels is so much nicer to watch than the old channels. I don't have a widescreen aspect ration tv so I get the bars on top and sides(when it is not an hd broadcast.) The picture quality for the super bowl was unbelievable. However, I'm also getting a pixel problem every now and then. And the top the picture field where the black bar starts, has an annoying flickering white line that mostly comes up when a non-hd broadcast is on.(ABC only) NBC has a different annoying feature. Many of their broadcasts are filmed or taped in a standard aspect ratio but stretched to fit the widescreen format. I would rather have bars on the sides then see people that are stretched like silly putty. I am looking forward to getting ESPNhd as well as all the other channels that are carrying an hd signal. The menus are all instant now, unlike regular digital cable. The only problem is only channel up and down work on the hd channels. If you want info, or last or and menu feature you have to go back to a non-hd channel. It's worth getting, I just hope they give us CBS before march madness. HD live sporting events have unmatched clarity. It is as close as you will ever get to being there. I received an appointment for two days later and a Motorola 5100 STB was installed. The HD stations are excellent. The non-HD stations have much more grain in them than before. I am hoping that customer service will be helpful in obtaining a fix on this. It is disappointing that CBS, FOX and PBS are not offered yet. It took five phone calls to the Comcast 800 line before I could finally setup an installation appointment. The installation process was very quick (about ten minutes). Once the STB was hooked to the cable and TV (using component video cables and standard RCA for audio), they called someone at HQ who setup the box via network. I confirmed that the STD was outputing 1080i. I also 'wired' the STB's optical audio out to my reciever. The picture is great when the source is actually HD. The DTV feeds look nice, but don't compare to HD in detail or color. D5.1 sound adds a whole new dimension to home theater. The only problem so far is that the WMAR-DT feed is unwatchable at times due to severe pixelization. I look forward to getting the FOX and PBS HD feeds. First problem was true HDTV came in fine with creat picture quality, but my lower/regular channels were stretched out. To resolve this problem we had to go into the configuration of the Comcast DTV box and change the override to 480p. It's default is 480i. Only a few channels to choose from now for true HD, but it looks good so far. Also, with some channels, if you have wide screen format, you may notice bars on the left and right of the picture. I have read that this is do the the fact that it is not true HDTV, but a re-packaging of NTSC signal. My TV (Mits WS-48511) reports the HD signal as only 480i not 1080i. I verified the program was supposed to be in HD and that the cable was hooked up correctly. At least I think so. The box has only Component out so that is hooked to the DTV imputs on my set. Shouldn't the TV report 1080i when it is recieving HD? Of course the idiot that came out and charged me $50 to install the box hooked up the cable to just a regular component in input originally, not the DTV input. AFter the inital problem in the area, they finally got the DTV signals coming in. The picture and sound are great. Unfortunatly, their only offering ABC (WMAR, NBC (WBAL), HBO & SHO in HD. They're in negoiations right now with CBS and hope to be ading CBS to the lineup soon. The cost of the box was only $21.95 and no additional monthly cost for the service. Cost was only $21.95 for the box and no additional costs. Monthly subscription costs remains the same that we were paying for DTV. After some minor problems here in Southern AA, comcast was finally able to get the HD box working. The picture and sound are great. Just wish that comcast would have CBS and Fox in their DTV lineup. Sure enuf when he installed it there is cosiderable grain in solid areas of the picture. This is better or worst depending on the quality of the movie on hbo or showtime but is alway present. The detail is there in high def but WHY the grain or video noise in the picture. The standard digital signals do not have this grain only the high def channels. And why does WBAL not use the 16 by 9 format for their high def images? I paid a lot of money for the hdtv and the comcast cabel is not delivering the quality of signal need to make high def worth the money. Does anyone else see this problem with Baltimore Comcast? So much so that when the installer called the office to check on some info., the office told him they didn't offer HDTV in this area. I called Comcast a while ago, got put on a list, and forgot about it. Last week a marketing rep called and asked when I would be available for them to install.Right now I have 1SHO, 1HBO, an NBC, and one ABC HDTV channel. They are supposed to have more on the way. Looks good so far. Install is $49.95, but they waved that. The box cost five dollars more a month than my digital box. At the very least, the box seems to operate faster and has an optical out for digital sound.So far so good. Comcast installed an SA 3100HD box, turned it on, and the results were striking. The picture quality on the limited HD offerings is outstanding, as is the Dolby sound. Great motorola box, fast channel switching unlike the old digital cable. I didn't get a firewire port on mine, its blocked off. But there is a usb and cable modem but its not turned on, hopefully soon.
