You only need 10% signal strength on the meter to lock the station. I am getting about 50% signal strength on most of the Philadelphia stations, and average 90% on CBS. There are occasional momentary drop-outs, probably due to planes flying overhead. I am getting 32 digital channels and looking forward to telling the cable company good-bye! If you are on the fringe reception area like I am, you will need an 8-bay antenna like the CM 4228 or Antennasdirect DB8, plus a powerful amplifier like the CM 7777. You will need to get the antenna as high as possible (i.e. roof-mount it). Worth the investment and effort to save $70/month or whatever you currently pay for cable. I was getting "poor signal quality" consistently for WTXF (Fox)for months. After writing to the WTXF Engineering department I received what ended up being a solution to the problem. I formerly had my 90 mile antenna mounted in the attic of my one story home. WTXF Engineering told me "The WTXF antenna in Roxborough is several hundred feet lower than the other DTV broadcasters, so the height of your antenna relative to WTXF's may be an issue." So I gambled and purchased a 10 foot mast and eave mount from Radio Shack and mounted my antenna outside. This resulted in a net 12 feet higher antenna position in addition to getting the antenna out in the open. Not only did this instantly result in a perfect WTXF reception, but it's been perfect since February 5th. Not a bad $30 investment to get the Super Bowl and the spring NASCAR races in HDTV. The OTA signal strength meter on the Samsung tuner was just about useless. The signal meter never displayed a stable reading on any station (always fluctuating between 0 and 75) even when using different antennas. I wonder if the meter is broken on this particular unit or if there is a problem with this model. The HD10-250 signal meter is much better. It displays more stable readings and also records the peak reading for a given channel. Note that the signal strength is provided as a number between 0-100. The Samsung model also had no audio on channel 57-1. The channel 57-1 audio on the Hughes/Directv tuner was fine. The keys are (1) point the antenna in the exact bearing to the source (about 240 deg for me), (2) find the spot in your house were it all works (this took me a week to find), (3) use a amp if you're running a long cable or have lots of connections, and (4) use RG-6 cable and high quality connections. I could only get 3 channels for the first week because it was pointed directly at a tree and was mounted on the first floor and then inside the attic (third floor), which didn't work. When I finally installed it on the second floor about four-five feet up from the floor, everything magically worked perfectly and now I get a strong signal for all the channels (above 75% except NBC which is 60%).
