My Two year old 27 inch Sharp tv's receiver was crap from the second I bought it. The manufactures are taking advantage of the OTA customer. The older (2yr) Tv receivers are as able to capture the signal like the newer $40 rebate coupon units. Get an amplifier for your antenna and buy a $40 coupon receiver and on Long Island your reception will be good with the exception of NBC Channel 4. The biggest dissapointment, however, is WPIX. While NBC, CBS, ABC, FOX, UPN, and PBS come in fine with great signal stregnth, the WB is terrible. Although it shows a decent signal on my tuner, it goes in and out and frequently freezes and scrambles. Not that I really care about the regular programming on the WB, but in the summer they have alot of Mets games and the broadcasts are unwatchable. Supposedly they are going to fix this (I hear rumors only), but I have had HDTV for almost 12 months and the reception is still terrible. Last week I was watching the Yankee game on WCBS OTA HD, but Dish WCBS HD feed was showing soap operas (!). CBS looks the best at 1080i 16:9 at all times; they windowbox when the content is 4:3. ABC is 720p 16:9 on 7.1 and simulcasts 720p(?) 4:3 on 7.2. This amp has 2 pieces, one that connects to your existing antenna and to your coax and the other connects to the other side of the coax (before it connects to your receiver!) This solved my problem! HDTV OTA is incredible!

The list to choose my reciever from doesn't have the hd300 on it. It's a funny thing. I live 50 miles from Albany, yet 100 from the city and am in the DMA for the city. The antenna that I have has CEA rating of green. I'm suprised with such a small antenna that I can even get a dtv signal at all. It's so weak that the HD300 gives up and doesn't even try to decode the signal. Occasionally the signal strength will jump from really bad to the normal for a second or two and then goes away for a sec and then back to really bad. Maybe the chimney for the stove is in the way and preventing me from getting a usable signal, I never know. I'm going to try a bigger antenna in the near future and see what happens. I have the radioshack antenna on the roof, tonight I bought the VHF/UHF splitter. This will remove all VHF and FM signals.....WOW what a difference!! I now receive all channels without any cutouts/blackscreens. I have approx 120ft of double shielded RG6 (bought at homedepot) running from the antenna into the splitter then to the Panasonic receiver (and NO PREAMP)Works GREAT!!! I think the standard vhf/uhf antenna picks up Fm and vHF signals that can affect the receivers ability to lock on to UHF only! Just my opinion! I also bought a antenna preamp, which I haven't needed yet. Hope this info helps. DTV is amazing. The picture is either excellent or black screen. No ghosts, noise etc. I may have to add a preamp or repoint the antenna. CBS and ABC are always on. NBC and Fox 5 has dropouts. Still experiementing. The Monday night football picture experience well worth the effort of installing an antenna. Its hard to believe these signals are this good and free over the air!!!! I used www.antennaweb.org for my antenna data and channel data. And I used www.hdtvpub.com to read the experiences of all the local users, which greatly helped me decide on what equipment to use.
